Improve Yourself While You Sleep

Leave aside the books you have read and the education you have received for years. What if we tell you that you can now do challenging processes such as learning a foreign language and memorizing while you sleep? Improve Yourself

It may sound too much like science fiction. However, experiments conducted during the first 30 to 60 minutes after falling asleep, called the “slow wave sleep phase”, show that memories are transferred from short-term memory to long-term memory. According to the results of experiments on the slow wave sleep phase, it will soon be possible to train the mind while sleeping.

So what can you learn during this phase that will allow you to improve yourself? Here are the results of experiments on learning during sleep;

You can learn a foreign language

In one experiment, a group of native German speakers were taught basic Dutch vocabulary. After the subjects were divided into two groups, they were allowed to sleep. The first group was made to listen to the words they had learned while sleeping at night. The second group slept in silence. In the morning test, it was seen that the group that listened to the words verbally at night was successful by a large margin.

You Can Strengthen Your Memory

In another experiment conducted in 2013, 60 adults were asked to place objects in a computerized image of a room. During this process, a melody was playing in the room. These people were then allowed to take a 1.5-hour sleep break without any melody being played. However, during the second sleep break, the melody played while placing the objects was played again.

The individuals could not remember where they had placed the objects during sleep. Interestingly, the number of forgotten objects was lower after the sleep break when the music was played. In other words, playing the same melody during sleep as during the placement of the objects helped to strengthen memory.

You can engrave your memories in your mind

Our minds have a system for distinguishing certain memories from less important ones. 

These memories are stored directly in long-term memory. Scientists who wanted to break this system found the solution in a different experiment.

 In the study, which was conducted to ensure that people can recall unimportant memories accompanied by certain sounds, a group of people were put in a room. 

In one corner of the room, there is a cat icon that makes a cat sound, in another corner, there is a bell icon that makes a bell sound, and these sounds are played at certain intervals. 

The subjects were then divided into two groups and put to sleep. During the sleep of the first group, these sounds are played again at regular intervals. In the second group, no sound is played. 

It was found that the subjects who were exposed to sound during sleep thought of the icons they saw, while the other group did not.

You can play a musical instrument

In this experiment, a group of subjects were taught to play songs from Guitar Hero. The subjects were divided into two groups one group played the melody they had practised while the other group was not played anything. 

It was noted that the first group played the song immediately after sleep, while the group that did not listen to the melody was not as successful as the others.
